Just retired Assistant Inspector Tongai Fambi has been thrown out of Chikato Police Camp in Masvingo for making a scathing attack on the Government of President Emmerson Mnangagwa in which he accused it of making welfare donations to Mozambique when Zimbabweans themselves are starving.

Fambi who retired from Police last month was supposed to continue staying in the Police house for three months until October 2025, according to ZRP policy. However, after making the attack on Government, a Police Chief Superintendent whom Fambi did not name called on Monday and ordered him to immediately leave the house.

Fambi told reporters that the short notice left his family stranded in the streets. The family could not go to his own property as it is being occupied by tenants who need a proper notice for them to leave.

“It’s inhuman to evict someone in the middle of the month. I was due to move out of the camp in October in accordance with an eviction notice I was served by Superintendent Paul Mawone who is now at PGHQ. I own a house out of Masvingo and had given my tenants up till September to move out. We have binding leases and I can’t evict them. My property is piled in a small space.

“My wife suffered injuries carrying our property in my absence and the Police didn’t provide manpower because they knew that they were committing a crime,” said Fambi.

Masvingo Police Spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe referred questions to national Police Spokesperson, Paul Nyathi who could not be reached for a comment.

Masvingo Mirror crew witnessed the eviction on Tuesday with Fambi’s household goods being packed into a lorry and ferried to an unknown destination. A chief Superintendent was alleged to be at Chiakato to ensure that the eviction was carried out.

Fambi’s wife and children were involved in the loading of the property. Fambi was not at the scene.

Fambi released a statement castigating Mnangagwa over the donations made to Mozambique last week. Fambi described the Government’s donation as “fiction” which the people of Zimbabwe will not buy. The statement was published on Friday and Fambi was given marching orders on Monday morning.
