“He’s A Sellout”: Zanu PF Activist Removes Winky D Posters From ZUPCO Bus As Police Officers Watch

Harare – Tensions between politics and music flared once again after a Zanu PF Youth League member was caught on camera removing a Winky D concert poster from a ZUPCO bus, claiming the artist is “a sellout” who should not be allowed to advertise on government-owned property.

The poster was advertising Winky D’s upcoming Tête-à-Tête Concert. In the widely circulated video, the activist can be seen pulling it off the bus while speaking to police officers nearby.

“I have removed Winky D’s poster from the ZUPCO bus because the guy is a sellout,” said the Zanu PF youth member.

The incident has sparked mixed reactions, with critics arguing that the move reflects growing intolerance toward artists who are outspoken about social and political issues. Supporters of Winky D say he has every right to promote his music and accused the ruling party of censorship.

Others, however, defended the activist, insisting that government resources should not be used to promote individuals perceived as hostile to the state.

The episode has once again highlighted the uneasy relationship between Zimbabwe’s ruling party and the country’s musicians, many of whom use their platforms to comment on social and political realities.
