Chiredzi man dies after throwing himself into moving train
CHIREDZI – A Chiredzi man committed suicide by sitting on a railway line in the face of an oncoming National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) train in Chiredzi on Saturday.
The train was carrying sugarcane.
Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson, Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident and urged members of the public to seek counselling whenever they face difficulties.Makoni agricultural products
The report is that an NRZ employee was driving a locomotive train from Mkwasine to Hippo Valley sugar mill carrying sugarcane at around 5am.
At Makondo Extension, he saw a man (Shepherd Chauke (40)) seated in the railway line.
Chipato blew a hooter to alert Chauke but he remained seated and covered his face with both his hands.
Chipato applied emergency brakes but the locomotive failed to stop and it hit Chauke with a Cowcatcher bumper and he was thrown away to the left side of the railway line and died on the spot.
His body was taken to Chiredzi General Hospital for postmortem.
