“Empowering Inclusion ” Zimbabwe Sets to Join Global Community To Celebrate World Disability Day.

Bulawayo – Lawyers With Disabilities Association of Zimbabwe ( LDZ ) in partnership with Silveria House of the Jesuits in Southern Africa and Capacity Building Centre for Africa is gearing up to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) in Holiday Inn Bulawayo , from December 3 to 5.
This year’s theme, “Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress,” aims to highlight the importance of inclusivity and accessibility for persons with disabilities.
Speaking on the upcoming event, Josiah Kahari, event spokesperson emphasized the significance of collective efforts in promoting disability rights. “The inclusion of persons with disabilities is crucial for achieving social development objectives. We need to work together to break down barriers and create a society that values and empowers everyone, regardless of their abilities,” Josiah said.
The event will bring together delegates from South Africa, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo and local stakeholders, including government officials , academia , civil society organisations, legal experts, traditional leaders, foreign embassies ,United Nations representatives and disability advocates to discuss ways that promotes inclusivity and accessibility in various sectors, such as education, employment, and healthcare.
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed annually on December 3, with the aim of promoting the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities worldwide. This year’s commemorations in Bulawayo are expected to feature discussions, workshops, and cultural performances, focusing on ways to foster a more inclusive society .
