Zimbabwean men are being warned: don’t be fooled by a baby’s eyes, ears or complexion — it might NOT be your child!

In the game “Who’s the Father,” facial features are a trap — only science can tell the truth!

The streets of Bulawayo are buzzing with a scary truth: men are being turned into “ATM daddies” for children who don’t have a drop of their blood.

A wave of DNA shockers rocking Bulawayo courts is exposing a painful truth — many men are unknowingly raising children that are NOT biologically theirs.

Data from Global DNA Zimbabwe reveals a “paternity pandemic,” showing that a massive 72 percent of tested men discovered they were raising another man’s bundle of joy.Zimbabwe Economic Reports

At the National University of Science and Technology (NUST)’s Applied Genetics Testing Centre, the numbers for 2025 are just as chilling — nearly 40 percent of cases came back with a big fat “NO.”

A total of 97 paternity cases were tested in 2025, out of these cases, 60 were confirmed to be positive, while 37 returned negative results.

Vannessa Ndlovu, a Research Fellow at Nust, stated that a paternity test costs US$210 and requires samples from the mother, the child, and the alleged father. “In cases where the father is deceased, the first option is the paternal grandmother, as testing the grandfather is not recommended,” she said.

Experts say the demand for DNA testing is rising rapidly, with most requests driven by suspicions of infidelity and growing concerns over paternity disputes. And they warn — guessing based on looks is NOT enough.

Take the case of Wayne Mawire from Entumbane suburb in Bulawayo. He was dragged to the Western Commonage Magistrates’ Court by his ex-lover, Stella Shoko.

Stella was singing a sweet song, claiming Mawire to be the father.

In her court papers, she swore: “In the month of February, I had an encounter with Wayne Mawire and in the month of May I tested by calculations and the doctor’s visit confirmed that I was pregnant for three months. I had a meeting with and advised him.”

“From childbirth (17 November 2025) up to date) the father of my child has not even a single day socially, emotionally, or financially supported me. Somehow it has disturbed my emotional and mental being regardless of family engagement (sic)”

The court ordered Mawire to start paying US$40 a month into Stella’s EcoCash. But Mawire had a gut feeling. He demanded a DNA test. When the results from Global DNA Zimbabwe landed on 17 February 2026, the score was 0%!Zimbabwe Economic Reports

Mawire was “excluded” as the biological father and was immediately discharged from paying for another man’s “mistake.”

It gets worse.

A top Bulawayo pathologist is currently suing his ex-lover for a whopping US$163,000.

Why? Because he spent 11 years — over a decade! — paying raising a child he thought was his, only for a DNA test to prove he was just a “payout” for a kid that wasn’t his.

Even polygamists aren’t safe.

One local man with two wives was left speechless after testing all his children — only to find out NONE of them belonged to him.

Now, a Bulawayo man has launched a high-stakes legal battle that is heading straight for the Constitutional Court.

He is challenging the very laws that govern maintenance and paternity in Zimbabwe, arguing that the current system is a “trap” for men.Zimbabwe Economic Reports

The applicant says he is “exhausted” by the constant threat of jail for maintenance arrears in a case where the mother has allegedly refused to bring the children for DNA testing.

Despite his consistent pleas and a court order to prove he is the father, his ex-lover has allegedly blocked every attempt to get the children to a lab.

On September 5, 2025, the man was slapped with an interim maintenance order directing him to pay US$85 per month for two minor children.

He is also currently footing the bill for school fees for one of them, all while doubting they are his.

Instead of complying with the court’s order for DNA tests, the woman has reportedly threatened him with a prison cell if he misses a single payment.

His legal team is now mounting a fierce constitutional challenge, arguing that the legal framework is fundamentally unfair.

In a “screaming” court application, his lawyers contend: “The threat of imprisonment is therefore not hypothetical but immediate . . . the law violates the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty.”

The applicant argues that it is a direct violation of his constitutional rights to face jail time when the biological link remains a mystery due to the mother’s refusal to cooperate.

His papers raise a massive question for the nation’s top judges.

“The constitutional issue… is whether Section 23 of the Maintenance Act is consistent with the Constitution where it permits imprisonment for default without mandatory scientific proof of paternity where paternity is disputed.”

He further argues that Section 49 of the Constitution guarantees personal liberty and protection from imprisonment without “just cause.”

“In circumstances where paternity has not been scientifically established . . . the threat of imprisonment for failure to comply with maintenance obligations may amount to imprisonment without just cause,” his lawyers stated.

He is calling on the Constitutional Court to intervene, asserting that the lives of men should not be ruined while the question of paternity remains “scientifically unresolved.”

The matter is set to be heard at the Western Commonage Magistrates’ Court on April 21, 2026.

Due to the sensitive constitutional nature of the case and the fact that it is yet to be heard before the courts, the identities of the parties have been withheld. This landmark case could set a massive precedent, potentially changing how paternity disputes and maintenance enforcement are handled across the whole of Zimbabwe. A legal expert, speaking on condition of anonymity for professional reasons, warned that the refusal to allow DNA tests is a ticking time bomb for domestic violence.

“We strongly encourage paternity tests as a standard procedure when there is a dispute. By blocking these tests, we are creating a pressure cooker environment.

“Unfortunately, that is when we see some people snap — committing horrific acts like killing their spouses or children before taking their own lives after discovering, too late, that the children they poured their lives into are not theirs. Science can prevent these tragedies by providing the truth early.”
