MCAZ applauds police, vigilant members of public in fight against counterfeit and harmful medicines

The Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) has applauded the Zimbabwe Republic Police and vigilant members of the public following the bust of an 2illegal backyard pharmaceutical operation in Zimre Park, Ruwa.

Authorities recovered suspected fake medicines, capsule filling machines, blister packing equipment and other manufacturing tools during the raid carried out last week.

MCAZ said public tip-offs played a crucial role in exposing the operation and strengthening the fight against counterfeit, substandard and illegally manufactured medicines in Zimbabwe.

The regulator also referenced a previous 2025 case involving Organicare, where investigations allegedly uncovered capsules containing crushed nut shells and other unverified substances being sold to unsuspecting consumers with false health claims.

MCAZ warned the public against buying medicines from unlicensed premises or unverified sources, saying illegal medicines pose serious risks to public health and safety.

Authorities say investigations and arrests linked to the latest operation are ongoing.
