Teacher Flees After Being Caught With Schoolgirl At Home At Night
A teacher at Bonda Girls High School in Mutasa District, Manicaland, is said to be on the run after being implicated in an alleged sexual misconduct case involving a female pupil, according to an internal report released by the school.
The report says security staff got a tip-off on the evening of 24 June that a female pupil had allegedly got into a teacher’s private car and was taken to his house.
According to ZiFM Stereo News, security officers reportedly followed the vehicle and intercepted it after the pupil was seen leaving the house and getting back into the car.
School authorities say the pupil was immediately taken into protective custody and escorted to the headmaster’s office. The accused teacher allegedly fled before he could be questioned.
Preliminary findings point to allegations of an inappropriate sexual relationship between the teacher and the pupil, the report states. The matter was reported to the police straight away, and a criminal investigation is now underway.
The school said the pupil was referred for a medical assessment and trauma support. Parents, education authorities and the School Development Committee have been informed.
In the report, the school called the alleged conduct a serious breach of child safeguarding policies, professional ethics and national law. The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has been notified, so suspension and deregistration proceedings can begin.
The teacher remains at large, with police reportedly looking for him.
Meanwhile, Bonda Girls High School says it is reviewing security measures, strengthening counselling services and reactivating its Child Protection Committee to keep learners safe.
