5 siblings perish in Passover tragedy in Marange

Five siblings aged between 6 and 12 and their neighbour were killed in a head-on collision near Marange High School while returning home from the Johane Marange Apostolic Church Passover gathering. The children were travelling home ahead of the reopening of schools and were due to sit for their mid-year examinations the next day.

Four victims died at the scene, while two others later died after being taken to a church shrine instead of a hospital, in line with the church’s faith-healing doctrine. Four other children survived and are recovering.

The tragedy has devastated the Mutsikwi family and the Ngomasha Village community. Police delayed the burial of two of the children to conduct mandatory post-mortem examinations after they died away from the crash scene.

Family members, community leaders, and school officials described the loss as unprecedented, highlighting that the children were hardworking, well-loved, and looking forward to returning to school.
