Madzibaba Gathry, Wife Jailed 20 years for Rape

MADZIBABA Gathry Chiredzero has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted of rape.

His wife, Diana Chauke, who was convicted as an accomplice, was sentenced to an effective 15 years’ imprisonment.

They were convicted by regional magistrate Estere Chivasa today.

The couple had been jointly charged with the victim’s mother.

However, the court acquitted the mother after finding that the defence she presented was reasonably possibly true.

The court accepted that she had acted under intimidation after Chiredzero allegedly threatened her with a firearm.
