Two Women Go On Vicious Biting Spree At Harare’s Doek & Slay Festival

Two women who allegedly went on a biting spree in which they bit other women on the faces, fingers and elbows during a women-only event in Harare over the weekend have appeared in court.

Nancy Murinye (30) and Rosylin Luwizhi (25) allegedly attacked revellers and ripped pricey weaves straight off their heads towards the end of the Doek & Slay show at the Glamis Arena on Sunday night.

Nancy and Rosylin appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo on Tuesday facing four counts of assault.

They were each granted US$150 bail and will return to court on 3 September for routine remand.

Prosecutor Takudzwa Jambabwu alleged that on Sunday at around 8 pm, when the show was drawing to a close, Florence Svovera was attending the Doek & Slay show when she was approached by the accused as she made her way to the toilets.

The court heard that Rosylin allegedly forcibly removed Florence’s wig and pushed her to the ground.

When Florence resisted, Rosylin allegedly bit her on the face and right middle finger, while Nancy allegedly bit her on the right elbow, forcing her to surrender the wig.

On the second count, the court heard that around the same time, Sharmaine Tumbawi was also at the show when the two accused, together with another accomplice who is still at large, allegedly grabbed her.

Rosylin allegedly pushed Tumbawi to the ground and bit her on the nose. Nancy and the unidentified accomplice allegedly fled while Rosylin remained behind, still holding onto the complainant. Sharmaine sustained a deep cut on her nose.

In the third incident, the court heard that at around 9 pm, Sandra Marufu was attending the same event when the accused allegedly approached and grabbed her.

Rosylin allegedly tried to remove Sandra’s weave, prompting the complainant to hold onto it. The court heard that Rosylin then allegedly bit Sandra on the left ear, causing injuries.

On the final count, Chido Milanzi was allegedly involved in an altercation with the accused while trying to restrain them during a misunderstanding involving her sister.

Rosylin allegedly bit Chido on the left cheek and ear, resulting in injuries to her left ear.

The complainants subsequently reported the incidents to the police, leading to the arrest of the accused and his appearance at the Harare Magistrates’ Court. –
