Police raise alarm as woman poisons, kills 2 sons after row over infidelity

Police are concerned over the rising cases of murder, attempted murder and suicide involving couples and family members arising from domestic disputes.

Police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said there has been a sharp increase in such tragic cases.

Many of them appear to be linked to infidelity cases.

Comm Nyathi said on Monday, at Maisa Village, Zhombe, Emily Takadii (23) allegedly had a misunderstanding with her husband over allegations of infidelity.

Comm Nyathi said she allegedly gave a poisonous substance to her two sons – Shyne Tavatya (6) and Sean Tavatya (9) – before swallowing the same substance.

He said the two children died upon admission at Kwekwe District Hospital, while the mother is currently admitted at the same hospital in a critical condition.

Comm Nyathi said on Tuesday, at Marowa Village, Mukumbura, Robert Tashinga (50) allegedly struck his wife, Nollent Sinosi (36), with an axe following a misunderstanding over infidelity allegations.

The victim died on the spot.

The suspect fled the scene.

In Mvurwi, police arrested Kudakwashe Rangarirai (27) in connection with a murder and attempted murder case which occurred in Omeath Extension on Tuesday.

Police claim he killed his two-year-old stepson, Prince Owen Mugari, and seriously injured his 23-year-old wife.

Comm Nyathi said the suspect subsequently swallowed a poisonous substance and is currently admitted at Mvurwi Hospital, while his wife is in critical condition at Parirenyatwa Hospital.

In Nyamhunga, Kariba, police arrested Emmanuel Mpofu (33) for attempted murder after he severely assaulted his 25-year-old wife following allegations of infidelity.

The victim is receiving treatment at Kariba Hospital.

Police urged couples and family members to resolve disputes through peaceful and lawful means.

They said members of the public were encouraged to seek counselling and involve trusted third parties, including traditional leaders, church leaders, and professional counsellors, when faced with marital or domestic challenges.

Meanwhile, a row has erupted between the families of the couple which was found dead in their bedroom in Glen View 3 this week with the tragedy linked to claims of infidelity.

Police have confirmed that the couple, Nyasha Mhungu (35) and Olga Muzhingi (30), were experiencing serious marital disputes.

The couple’s families are clashing over what led to the deaths of their beloved ones in a tragedy which has shaken their neighbourhood and grabbed headlines.

Members from their church spent the better part of yesterday trying to resolve the differences.

Apostle Hardlow Chikaka of Baptism of Fire International Ministries was busy yesterday trying to ensure that the families of the late Olga Muzhingi and Nyasha Mhungu could find common ground.

The two funerals are being held at separate venues.

A source close to Apostle Chikaka’s camp told H-Metro that the church had been finding it difficult to conduct church services, related to the couple’s funerals, at two different places.

“The relationship between the families is so tense that they failed to meet at one place.

“Considering that Nyasha was yet to pay lobola for Olga, the in-laws refused to mourn their daughter at Mhungu’s place.

“The couple’s church leader, along with his members, are fighting hard to unite the families.

“Apostle Chikaka has managed to find a breakthrough by meeting both families and they have agreed on the way forward.”

It was reported last night that the Mhungu family paid “mhere” and “makandinzwa nani” yesterday after a marathon meeting.

“He is asking both families to consider the kids left and also consider settling their grievances after laying the couple to rest,” said the source.

“The church is mediating for a common cemetery where the children would witness the burial of their parents.” *_-H-Metro_*
