Jacob Ngarivhume Vows to Fight On After Hostile Package Threat and Continues His Relentless Crusade Against ZANU-PF Corruption and Democratic Erosion

Prominent Zimbabwean opposition leader Jacob Ngarivhume has demanded
an immediate police investigation after discovering a highly
threatening, unsolicited package delivered to his residence. The
parcel, which contained dog waste mixed with an unidentified
substance, was accompanied by a chilling handwritten note warning that
a future delivery would consist of an explosive device. Fortunately,
Ngarivhume was away from home when the delivery occurred.

Drawing alarming parallels to dark chapters in Zimbabwe’s political
history, Ngarivhume specifically referenced the notorious 1975
assassination of liberation war icon Herbert Chitepo by a parcel bomb.
Given this historic weaponization of mail deliveries against political
figures, he issued an urgent public warning to fellow human rights
defenders, journalists, and everyday citizens, advising them to
exercise maximum vigilance regarding unexpected parcels from unknown
origins.

While Ngarivhume has officially called for law enforcement to
intervene, he openly voiced skepticism regarding their commitment. He
cited the state’s handling of human rights lawyer Douglas Coltart’s
confiscated mobile phone as a troubling precedent that has severely
eroded public trust in impartial policing.

Nevertheless, the Transform Zimbabwe leader firmly maintained that
these intimidation tactics would fail to deter him. Reaffirming his
unwavering dedication to peaceful advocacy, constitutionalism, and
democracy, Ngarivhume declared that relying on terror and underhanded
threats only highlights the sheer intellectual weakness of those who
oppose progressive ideas.

Jacob Ngarivhume, founder of the political party *Transform Zimbabwe*,
has long been a prominent thorn in the side of the ruling ZANU-PF
government. His activism and public criticisms have primarily targeted
three key pillars of systemic failure within the regime, beginning
with grand corruption and economic plunder. Ngarivhume’s most
high-profile confrontation with the state stems from his relentless
anti-corruption advocacy. He was the chief architect behind the “July
31 Movement” in 2020—a nationwide call to protest against rampant
state graft, infrastructure collapse, and severe mismanagement of
COVID-19 procurement funds. He continuously highlights how systemic
bribery and the looting of national resources, such as diamond and
gold revenues, directly cause hyperinflation, high unemployment, and
the destruction of public health and education systems.

Furthermore, he targets the weaponization of the judiciary and the
infamous “catch and release” phenomenon. As a vocal survivor of
political imprisonment, Ngarivhume has heavily criticized the regime
for abusing the legal architecture to silence dissent. In 2023, he
served eight months of a four-year sentence for “inciting public
violence” over his anti-corruption tweets before the High Court
quashed his conviction. He frequently condemns the regime’s strategy
of weaponizing police and courts against activists, contrasting it
with a policy where corrupt, ruling-party-aligned elites face no
meaningful consequences.

Finally, Ngarivhume strongly opposes the regime’s democratic deficit
and the systematic eradication of constitutional rights. He continues
to focus on the restriction of free speech, the banning of opposition
rallies, and flawed, non-transparent electoral processes. He remains
instrumental in demanding structural reforms that prevent state
security forces from being deployed as a partisan political wing of
the ruling elite.
