Kariba Man Trampled to Death by Elephant

A KARIBA man lost his life in an elephant attack yesterday morning on his way to work.

The incident occurred when the victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was walking with two other men near Warthog Safari Camp.

According to witnesses, the elephant suddenly charged at the three, prompting them to run in different directions.

“Unfortunately, the victim took a different path, which caught the elephant’s attention. The elephant targeted him and brought him down,” a witness said.

The elephant attack left the man in critical condition and he was rushed to Kariba District Hospital for medical attention, where he was pronounced dead.

Kariba Residents Trust administrator Marshall Mushore lamented the increase in cases of human-wildlife conflict in Kariba.

“It’s sad that the man woke up early in the morning with the intention of providing for his family, not knowing that his life would end like this,” Mushore said.

“As leaders, our word to the authorities is that they should intervene in fighting this scourge through various means, such as campaigns.”

The incident is not an isolated case in Kariba.

Recently, several such tragic incidents have brought to the fore the dangers of human-wildlife conflict in the area.
