Man Charged with Physical Abuse for Strangling Wife Over Ice Cream Request
A domestic dispute in Hwange turned violent when a 47-year-old man allegedly strangled his wife after she asked him to buy ice cream for their daughter.
The man appeared before the Hwange Magistrates’ Court facing physical abuse charges
The incident occurred on June 29, 2024, at around 10:00 AM.
Heated Argument Over Ice Cream Request Turns Violent
According to the National Prosecuting Authority, the conflict began when the complainant, a 44-year-old woman, asked her husband to buy ice cream for their daughter.
The accused responded that he had no money, which escalated the conversation into a heated argument.
The situation turned violent when the husband charged at his wife and strangled her with his bare hands. He only released her and fled when neighbors approached after hearing the commotion.
Court Suspends Sentence and Imposes Fine
The accused was sentenced to pay a fine of USD 400 by August 30, 2024. Failure to pay will result in three months of imprisonment.
Additionally, another three-month sentence was wholly suspended for five years, conditional on his good behavior.
National Prosecuting Authority Urges Peaceful Dispute Resolution
Following the incident, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe issued a statement urging the public to avoid violence and to resolve disputes peacefully.
They emphasized the importance of seeking third-party mediation if necessary to prevent such violent occurrences.
