One Dead, Another Critical After Fuel Tanker Explosion in Harare

A welding job turned into a deadly inferno when a fuel tanker exploded in a Harare suburb, killing one man and leaving another critically injured.

The two men, unaware of the tanker’s previous contents, were working on it when it suddenly burst into flames, sending shockwaves through the neighbourhood.

Former Harare Deputy Mayor and Ward 41 councillor Kudzai Kadzombe has since called for increased vigilance and responsible behaviour in communities.

“This tragedy is exactly why council passed a resolution allowing the enforcement, towing, and clamping of trucks parked in residential areas,” Kadzombe said.

“These trucks are not only damaging roads and attracting crime, but they’re also endangering lives.”

She stressed that such heavy vehicles have no place in residential spaces, warning that without swift action, more lives could be lost in preventable accidents like this.
