Kadoma.- Rimuka Family Health Clinic (RFHC) has its new maternity wing nearing completion with the outside veranda being the only work balance before commissioning, it is established.
Finance director Faustina Zhou has since indicated that according to council projects and timelines, the facility is among priority ones by Town House.
Contacted for appraisal on progress, Kadoma mayor, Cllr Nigel Ruzario said council workmen are now seized with the veranda and only waits word on the go ahead to commissioning this critical health service outcrop.
“I understand officials privy to the construction work on the ground are finalizing the external veranda. We were supposed to have it commissioned earlier this year by Minister of State for Mashonaland West province, Hon. Marian Chombo. She was, however not available due to other commitments. We have to confirm her availability once we’re done this side” Cllr Ruzario said in one of his responses.
Adding: “There were workmen putting final touches to some parts of a section under construction there. I’ve been informed they should be done anytime now. I will keep you abreast of developments.”
A site visit to the clinic showed that work is progressing well as workmen were seen grinding their bit on site.
The Rimuka high density suburb domiciled maternity wing’s completion will bring relief to residents from various other suburbs including Cherry Bank, Cherry View, Blue Grass, Pix Combie, Destiny and Craft who frequent due to accessibility and affordability.
“We welcome the move by council to add another maternity wing at this clinic. It’s just good for the whole community. We’re always looking forward to its completion for it to ease pressure on the older section since we’re normally overcrowded in that block,” said Rutendo Majari from nearby Rupiya Street.
The fresh public health maternity wing is earmarked to ease the burden at a family facility serving members of several suburbs dotted around the city, both old and new.
To stamp its cardinal importance, RFH maternity was the only public facility handling child birth outside Kadoma General Hospital during the Covid-19 pandemic era, putting more pressure on the already overburdened station.
At its peak, internal sources say the ante, neo and post natal centre, attends to around 200 clients a day.
