Storm Rips Through Gutu School, Leaving Trail of Destruction
A violent storm tore through Hunduza Primary School in Gutu on Monday evening, ripping off roofs from classroom blocks and leaving the learning institution counting heavy losses.
The storm, which struck shortly after 6pm, brought fierce winds that blew roofing sheets off three classroom blocks, scattering debris across the school grounds.
Witnesses described scenes of panic as parents, teachers and community members rushed to the school to safeguard what they could, fearing further destruction.
“It was frightening. The wind was very strong. We never expected such a storm this time of year,” said one teacher, who added that the situation could have been worse had pupils been present.
School authorities say they now face an urgent need for assistance to repair the damaged infrastructure and restore safe learning conditions.
In similar incidents reported elsewhere, The Herald noted a rise in weather-related damage affecting rural schools, highlighting broader concerns over climate-induced vulnerabilities.
Hunduza Primary administrators have appealed to government departments, local authorities and well-wishers to intervene swiftly so learning can resume safely when pupils return.
