Zifa Mashwest Provincial League Entangled in Controversy
By Lloyd Mwale in Kadoma
The Derrick Matapuri-led Zifa Mashwest Provincial League is entangled in controversy after declaring that it’s three Division leagues have ended, paving way for Northern Region Division League promotion playoffs to be played despite some still having pending fixtures and some matches still under dispute.
Barcelona Kadoma was declared the champions of D2B West, Chingwere winners of D2B East while Karoi Bush Bucks won the D2A.
A controversial decision by the Matapuri-led Zifa Executive to declare Karoi Bush Bucks and Barcelona Kadoma to proceed to playoffs has sparked a fierce “war” of complains from clubs demanding accountability and transparency due to the final log standings produced by the provincial league forcing the league executive to postpone the first leg of the Division 2B playoffs between Barcelona Kadoma and Chingwere.
A memo in our possession from Zifa Mashwest Provincial League advises the two clubs of the postponement to 14 December but some clubs have vowed to stop the playoff-match until all the outstanding fixtures and disputed matches have been settled.
Efforts to get a confirmation from Tatenda Makuvaro, the league’s administrator, on why the playoffs between Barcelona Kadoma and Chingwere was postponed proved fruitless as Makuvaro did not respond to media inquiries.
Sources say some clubs have approached Zifa, Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission(ZACC) and the Sports and Recreation (SRC) to intervene in how football was being run in Mashonaland West.
Clubs interviewed confirmed to have approached Zifa and Anti Corruption body.

“Yes, we as a club have approached Zifa,we want sanity in our provincial league, some fixtures were not played but one club is said to have been promoted, what is the outcome of those fixtures, the league executive cannot just decide which club is the eventual champions!” said one club in the D2B West
Another club in D2 said that they had approached the provincial anti corruption body and will be approaching the football mother body in Harare.
“We’re taking our issue to the anti corruption body on Monday(today) and later to Zifa Offices in Harare,we were hard done by the provincial league executive, they should not just handpick one club to be the champions, they must compete and we were all competing to be the champios!”said one club in D2A.
A closer look at the D2 and D2B West shows that some clubs still have outstanding fixtures, Vods Spotlight have played 32 fixtures Father Flower,Chuma, Father Flower, Waverely Utd, Eiffel Flats and VIP all on (33) while Barcelona Kadoma and Ingezi Hurricanes have played 34 matches but Hurricanes were supposed to play Waverely Legends while a Vods Spotlight/Barcelona Kadoma match which was abandoned is still yet to be determined while in D2 all clubs have played 37 matches.
Zifa Mashwest Provincial League Executive elections slated for this week at Rainbow Towers Hotel will see the incumbent Zifa Mashwest Provincial League Executive chairman, Derrick Matapuri facing Kenson Kumponda and Rufaro Muhwira.
