Chipinge teenagers sell stolen vehicle for US$200
The Chipinge Magistrates’ Court has sentenced three men to six years in prison each for the theft of a motor vehicle.
The trio, Frank Tinotenda Bheri (18), Robert Pfaera (18), and Munashe Chikonde (21), stole an Isuzu KB 280 double cab from the victim’s home in December 2025 while he was away in Harare for work.
The men later sold the vehicle for just US$200.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Bheri led Pfaera and Chikonde to the house in Chipinge, where they conspired to steal the vehicle. They then attempted to dispose of it by selling it as scrap metal.
Bheri initiated the sale through a local company, with the trio falsely claiming they were acting on behalf of their family. Chikonde acted as the required witness to complete the transaction.
The theft came to light when the victim’s colleague visited the house for a routine check and discovered the vehicle was missing.
A police report was immediately filed, which led to the arrest and eventual conviction of the three men.
The court handed down the following sentences: Bheri received six years, with four suspended, leaving two years to serve; Pfaera was sentenced to six years, with three suspended, leaving three years effective; and Chikonde also received six years, with one year suspended, leaving four years to serve.
