Woman raped during a robbery at Bluffhill Church
A Bluffhill woman was raped by assailants who broke into her house on Sunday around 2 am.
The victim, who is the wife of a church caretaker, was asleep with her husband in their bedroom at the time.
The couple was awakened by noises emanating from the Sunday school room and the husband went to investigate, leaving his wife in their bedroom.
It was then that two masked men entered the room, threatening the woman and demanding money.
When she explained that there was no cash available at the church, the robbers searched the house but found nothing.
One of them then threatened her, stating that they would rape her if she did not comply. They covered her face with a cloth, and one of the assailants proceeded to sexually assault her.
The robbers were disturbed by approaching footsteps and quickly exited the home, closing the door behind them.
The caretaker managed to catch up with one of the robbers, who chased him away, prompting him to seek help from the community.
Community members expressed their shock and concern over the incident.
“We are living in fear, and there is a pressing need for organised security in our community,” one resident stated.
“The church premises are somewhat isolated, which contributed to the delayed response.”
Police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, was unavailable for comment, but sources indicate that the case is currently under investigation at Mabelreign Police Station.
