Foreigners blamed for burning of cars and looting of shops by South Africans
Foreign nationals have been blamed for forcing South Africans to loot and burn down South African-owned businesses during recent anti-immigration protests in Durban, with protesters insisting they had absolutely no control over their actions.
Among the victims was South African businesswoman Zanele Mkhize, whose businesses were looted and her hair salon set on fire. Mkhize, who has been operating since 2015 and employs 22 South Africans, lost televisions, equipment and furniture in the attacks.
Protesters insist that foreigners are entirely to blame for this destruction. They explained that if foreigners had never entered the country in the first place, there would have been no reason to protest or loot, meaning that nobody would have been forced to break into Mkhize’s shops, steal her equipment and set her salon on fire.
“Do you think our people wake up in the morning wanting to steal and burn things? Of course not. These are decent, hardworking patriots who have been pushed to their limits by foreigners.
