Zanu PF losers eye council seats under women’s quota

HARARE – Several Zanu PF bigwigs who lost in the party’s parliamentary primaries have filed their CVs to contest for councillorship under a new women’s quota system.

The move exposes the desperation of the political elites to cling to power and influence by seeking lower-level positions.

Some of the prominent names include Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs Minister, Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, Hurungwe MP Goodluck Kwaramba, Sanyati MP Josephine Shava and Mhangura MP Precious Chinhamo-Masango.

“I don’t see it as a demotion, but as an opportunity to serve in a different capacity. I have the qualifications and experience that most women lack,” Kwaramba told NewZimbabwe.

Other candidates, who are eyeing councillorship include provincial Women’s League deputy political commissar, Joylene Munduna, ldah Kamushinda, Denica Makota and Phillipa Matunja.
