Three perish in Chipinge accident

A JOY ride by six drunk friends ended in a tragedy on Monday evening after they were involved in a road accident along Chipinge-Southdown Road, leading to the death of three of them.

The trio, Troy Nyangombe(20) of Gaza suburb, Joyline Parrafin (18) of Medium Density and Rutendo Chikwanda (20) also of Gaza suburb, all Chipinge died on the spot after a Toyota Corolla Axio vehicle which was being driven by a fellow friend, Nyasha Brandon Jani overturned and rolled several times.

The other occupants, Nyasha Jani and Nothando Beto were referred to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital because of the nature of their injuries, while Joseph Mulambo was admitted at Chipinge District Hospital.

Zimbabwe Republic Police national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident.

“Yesterday (Monday) at around 5pm, Nyasha Brendon Jani was driving a Toyota Corolla Axio vehicle, owned by his mother, Pauline Jani of Joubert Street in Chipinge Town.

“Upon approaching the 7km peg along Chipinge-Southdown Road or Eastern Border Road, Nyasha lost control of the vehicle, swerved to the left and moved for about 54 metres with the left side wheels off the road.

“Nyasha tried to drive back to the road, but swerved off again to the right side before the car rolled several times. It landed on its right side.

“Nyangombe, Parrafin and Chikwanda were thrown out of the vehicle. Nyangombe sustained severe head injuries, a broken left leg and arm. Chikwanda had a deep cut on the forehead and they died on the spot,” said Assistant Commissioner Nyathi.
