Woman robbed by man she met in Harare CBD while heading to his house for lula-lula

In a harrowing incident that unfolded on Thursday evening, a Chitungwiza woman found herself robbed by an individual she had intended to spend the night with in the Mabelreign area.

Abigail Khumalo, a 23-year-old resident of Unit L in Seke, encountered the unidentified robber in Harare’s central business district around 10 p.m. that night.

The man, whose name remains unknown to Abigail, made a proposal to her, which she accepted. He managed to convince her to accompany him to his purported residence in Mabelreign for the night. Together, they boarded a kombi heading towards Westgate and disembarked at the Westgate roundabout.

As they began walking northward, supposedly toward the man’s house, they reached a secluded spot where the situation took a menacing turn. Without warning, the man grabbed Abigail, gripping her neck tightly and initiating a vicious assault. To compound the horror, he brandished a knife and swiftly relieved her of her belongings and clothing, leaving her utterly vulnerable and exposed.

Fortunately, a passerby noticed the distressing scene and came to Abigail’s aid. This compassionate individual promptly escorted her to the Avondale Police Station, where she reported the incident and detailed the actions of her unidentified assailant, whom she had previously viewed as a potential romɑntic interest.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed that an investigation into the case is underway. Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that may assist in identifying the perpetrator responsible for this brazen act of robbery and assault.

“The unidentified accused person took the complainant’s items, including her clothes and disappeared into the dark,” Inspector Chakanza revealed, highlighting the audacity and swift escape of the assailant.

This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for caution and vigilance when interacting with strangers, particularly in unfamiliar settings.
