Tragic self-immolation incident unfolds in Silobela amidst cheating allegations
The deceased, identified as Onias Mangena, had long harboured suspicions that his wife was engaging in a romantic relationship with their landlord, Wilberforce Mukumba. According to Nyevera, Mangena’s mounting frustration reached a boiling point on that fateful day.
An altercation erupted between Mangena and his wife, resulting in him locking her and their young children inside their residence. Determined to carry out his intentions, Mangena ventured to a nearby garage, where he purchased petrol with the intention of dousing the house and its occupants.
Fortunately, the commotion caught the attention of vigilant neighbours, who swiftly responded to the distressed cries for help. They managed to rescue the trapped family before alerting the authorities.
Police even called the now deceased and he told them he was at home.
“Since he had already purchased the petrol, he went into the house where he set himself ablaze. He was reduced to ashes,” said the legislator.
He said the community was still shocked.
“We are still shocked by the development and I think had he gotten someone to talk to over the allegations, he could have solved the matter in a better way,” said the legislator.
