The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Mashonaland west province Honourable Marian Chombo had an interactive meeting with local authorities Mayors, Chairpersons and Town secretaries at minister’s office open space where she said there is no compromise to service delivery by local authorities. She further tasked local authorities in the province to modernize their operations.

Minister Chombo said service delivery monitoring engagements such as this one should not be an end in itself, but rather it should mark the beginning of many such engagements primarily because they provide “a critical mechanism through which we collectively reflect, introspect and proffer possible solutions to the challenges affecting our Provincial service delivery landscape”.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I am aware in a bid to enhance service delivery, the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works proposed a programme by the name Nhimbe /Ilima Road Rehabilitation Programme. The programme demands that all Road Authorities in the Provinces must pool together all their equipment and second them to a chosen Administrative District for a maximum period of up to three months to upgrade and maintain all roads in that specific District,” Chombo said.

“I therefore, challenge all the participants in this meeting to robustly contribute and offer diverse constructive views that will enable us to meet the needs and aspirations of the communities we serve.

“Together, through hard-honest work, as a peaceful and united people let us steadfastly continue on our journey towards attainment of Vision 2030 and building the Zimbabwe we all want,” she said.

“We do not cease to applaud Mhondoro-Ngezi for making us proud in 2023 and similarly, it is my earnest hope that you are going to achieve more accolades this year. I therefore challenge everyone to put hands on the deck in order to make our Province the best in all fields of human endeavor.”

The chairman of the Mhondoro-Ngezi Rural District Council Alderman Ephraim Chengeta said: “We won the award through emulating the leadership of President Mnangagwa.”
