The state has withdrawn charges against ZANU PF central committee member and Mutare businessman Dr Isau Mupfumi today.
Mupfumi was facing charges of inciting public violence two months ago after violent clashes involving touts erupted at Mutare city bus rank.
He was arrested together with 49 rank marshals and was out on bail while the others were being denied bail.
The charges were withdrawn before plea today when he appeared before Mutare Provincial magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe.
“There was no evidence linking Mupfumi to the violent clashes,” said Ms Sandra Muyambo, the prosecutor.
The investigating officer of the case Hardwork Gandiwa also testified in court that he had no evidence linked to the accused.
“I was just working on instructions from Harare to arrest Mupfumi,” Gandiwa said.
Mupfumi runs Gold Class buses which ply Mutare – Harare routes and Mutare – Chipinge as well.
