ZB Financial Holdings hacked, customer & operations data leaked

HARARE — ZB Financial Holdings, one of Zimbabwe’s largest financial institutions, suffered a ransomware attack in July, resulting in a significant data leak.

It is believed that the attackers stole files and demanded a ransom, which ZB refused to pay.

Consequently, the data was leaked on the dark web. It is also possible that the hackers encrypted ZB’s files to prevent access.

Cybersecurity monitoring firms detected the attack and shared the information on social media.

One firm posted on X that ZB was among six companies targeted by the ransomware group “Mad Liberator,” which included organizations from South Africa and Europe:

Techzim confirmed that a substantial amount of ZB’s customer and operations data, spanning from July 2024 back to 2017, had been leaked.

The data includes consumer and business customer information, employee data, account applications, and more.

Despite repeated attempts to contact ZB for comments, the company has not provided an official response. _*— TechZim*_
