MCAZ Warns Public Against Unauthorised Use of Its Name and Logo
_By Desire Tshuma_
Harare โ The Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) has issued a stern warning to manufacturers, distributors, marketers and the general public against the unauthorised use of its name and logo on advertising, packaging, promotional materials and digital platforms.
In a media release dated 17โฏFebruaryโฏ2026, MCAZ said it has observed a growing trend of individuals and companies falsely displaying the Authorityโs logo and making misleading claims that their products are โapproved,โ โcertifiedโ or โregisteredโ by MCAZ without written permission. โSuch conduct is illegal, deceptive, and intended to mislead consumers into believing that unregistered products have undergone regulatory evaluation,โ the statement read.
The warning follows a recent seizure of the product *โHUBABA,โ* manufactured and distributed by 3โฏSummer Investments, after a tipโoff led MCAZ inspectors and Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers to confiscate the item.
MCAZ emphasised that its logo is strictly controlled and may only be used with formal written approval. Any unauthorised use constitutes an offence under the Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act (MASCA) [Chapterโฏ15.03] and related legislation, exposing offenders to prosecution and product seizure.
โThe misuse of our identity poses a serious public health risk, as it undermines regulatory safeguards and may expose consumers to unsafe, substandard, or falsified medicines and health products,โ the Authority warned.
Members of the public are urged to verify the registration status of medicines and allied substances through the MCAZ online register and other official platforms. Suspected abuse of the MCAZ logo or misleading claims of approval should be reported immediately.
MCAZ said it will not hesitate to take firm enforcement action against any person or entity found misusing its brand, name, logo or regulatory authority.
