Marere approached the match with their tails up after a beating Golden Eagles away at Ellis Robbins over the weekend and surged ahead in the 20th minute when bustling striker Tafadzwa Shambarume scored past a drawn-in PAM keeper.
The goal seemed to have put Marere on fire as it continued to attack PAM in search of the second goal but the PAM defence, marshalled by Captain Farai Sibanda, stood firm thwarting the attacks.
Ten minutes later, PAM equalized through Amon Kambanje through a harmless looking ball which Marere goalkeeper Inilson Changani failed to handle and the tables tilted in favour of the visitors. Only erratic shooting denied them the chance to score more goals.
At the stroke of halftime, PAM doubled their lead through Elite Maseko to seal a sweet victory for Muriel Mine faithfuls who were pushing their team for a win after a disaster at Muriel Mine Ground when they went down to Chegutu Pirates.
After the pep talk, Beknown Nuhlaingena, the Marere coach, made some changes in a bid to find the equalizer but the PAM defence were in an uncompromising mood protecting their goal with Sibanda making some Van Damme type of clearing away the ball from their half.
“The best team won today!’ was all that Muhlaingena, Marere coach said after the match.
PAM coach promised a torrid time for Cranborne Bullets ahead of their encounter in their next fixture at Muriel Mine Ground.
“I feel pity for Cranborne Bullets for my boys are ready for them and this time we want to bring cheers to our fans.”
