Suspected child trafficker denied bail
A suspected human trafficker who allegedly brought three children from South Africa into Zimbabwe under unclear circumstances was yesterday denied bail by Harare regional magistrate Mrs Jesse Kufa.
Yemurai Gandari (35), who is facing charges of contravening the Human Trafficking Act, was remanded in custody until June 10 pending finalisation of investigations.
In denying bail, Magistrate Kufa said the offence was serious and noted that Gandari could abscond from court proceedings.
The State alleges that on May 16, 2026, police received information that Gandari had trafficked three children from South Africa into Zimbabwe.
Acting on the tip-off, police arrested Gandari and found her in the company of the three children.
Two of the children, suspected to be South African nationals, are eight-months-old. The court heard that the infants should still be breastfeeding, but they were not being breastfed at the time they were found.
Gandari allegedly failed to produce any identification documents for the children when requested by the police.
The third child, believed to be a Zimbabwean national, is four-years-old.
Investigations revealed that Gandari allegedly entered Zimbabwe with the children on May 5, 2026. *_-Herald_*
