Marere FC’s Struggles Continue After Another Loss to Jumbo Giants.
By Lloyd Mwale in Kadoma
In the world of sports, a team’s success is often measured by their wins and losses. For the Kadoma-based team Marere, the 2026 season has been filled with struggles and disappointments, with their most recent defeat coming at the hands of Jumbo Giants.
This marked their ninth defeat of the season, leaving them at the bottom of the MCM Northern Region Division One league.
It was a mid-week encounter at Rimuka Stadium that saw the lone goal from Jumbo Giants, left back, Fungal Murapa scoring from a penalty kick, to condemn Marere to another loss.
This result has surely sounded the alarm for the Marere hierarchy, as it begs the question – is it time for a change in order to turn their fortunes around?
With only three wins from seventeen league matches, it is clear that Marere has failed to transform into a formidable team. This has left some fans, particularly those from Sanyati, calling for the dismissal of coach Beknown Muhlaingena and his technical team.
“Tobva Sanyati every week kuenda neteam kunodyiwa, vamwe Marere iyi ikadyiwa hatirare kudzimba uku, coach apihwa nguva yakareba asi hapana kana chirikubuda ngaabaye kuuye mumwe coach nguva ichipi mhani,” said one unnamed fan One fan even went as far as to say that he would personally confront Muhlaingena to express his frustration and demand change.
“Ini am going to face Mhlaingena and Marere wacho, zvanyanya kudyiwa kwacho!” said another Marere fan.
The fans’ frustration is understandable, as they have witnessed week-after-week, Marere losing and being unable to secure points in a highly competitive league. And after their latest defeat, many feel that changes need to be made starting with Muhlaingena and possibly some of the players who have underperformed.
Even in the match against Jumbo Giants, Marere had a chance to take the lead in the 43rd minute when Prosper Andrea’s shot hit the crossbar.
And as the first half was coming to an end, referee Paul Matunhike controversially blew the whistle with two minutes still remaining on the clock. This decision angered the Jumbo Giants fans, who expressed their displeasure with obscenities towards the match officials.
In the second half, Jumbo Giants came back looking for the opener, with defender Russell Zambu coming close with a free header from a set piece..
But it was in the 61st minute that they were awarded a penalty after Marere defender Nelson Chikora handled the ball in the box. Referee Paul Matunhike had no hesitation in pointing to the spot, and Jumbo Giants took full advantage, securing the win.
For Marere, this defeat is just another in a long line of losses, and it is clear that changes need to be made in order to turn their season around. The fans have spoken, and it is up to the Marere hierarchy to listen and take action. With the season not yet over, there is still time for Marere to salvage their campaign and climb up the league table. But with every defeat, the pressure continues to mount and the alarm bells continue to ring louder.
