A FAMILY-RUN ALCOHOLIC FIRM DESTROYING FAMILIES

IT appears five of the seven businessmen, who were arrested for operating an alcohol manufacturing plant, manufacturing and distributing illicit brews without proper documents and without following proper procedures, are members of the same family.
The youngest director, among those who were nabbed, is just 24.
They are all foreign nationals and they are all directors at Samna Liquor Company, which has a liquor licence to manufacture and distribute alcoholic beverages.
Five of those nabbed appear to be members of one family.
The youngest, Amaranath Reddy Gundra, is 24 while the oldest Srikanth Reddy Jonnala is 39.
The other five directors, whose names were revealed by the police yesterday, are Manohar Reddy Yarraguntla, 39, Sekhar Reddy Kambani, 34, Yugandlar Reddy Samala, 34, Praveen Kumarreddy, 28, and Ranesh Yepuri, 37.
The company has been manufacturing and distributing four types of alcoholic labels— Jay-Dox Vodka, Happy Cheers Mint Vodka, Happy Cheers Whisky Premium and Jay-Dox Brandy — since last year.
However, police say the alcohol content in their illicit brews has not been tested and the company has not been following proper procedures and proper documents.
Their 25 employees, who have been working without food handling certificates, thereby risking the health of the consumers of their products, have been fined.
Five vehicles, which were used in the distribution network, were impounded by the police.
It’s a crushing blow to the operations at Samna Liquor Company and it’s probably the biggest attack on this network, which produces and distributes illicit alcoholic drinks, since police started their crackdown.
“Investigations carried so far have established that the products have been made of ethanol, flavours and water only and the 40 percent alcohol content was not tested,” said National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi.
Dagga
Meanwhile, the police blitz against those who are part of a network which pushes dangerous drugs into markets across the country is in full swing.
Police have arrested a suspect in Mbare after he was found in possession of dagga.
On Tuesday, police in Beitbridge arrested Shyleen Johane (35) at a service station in connection with unlawful possession of dagga.
On the same day, Madoro (43), Walter Magore (42) and Wilson Mukachana (33) were also arrested in Beitbridge in connection with unlawful possession of 10.5 kilogrammes of dagga.
