Four Dead, 15 Injured in Karoi Horror Crash
A devastating head-on collision between a Ford Ranger and a Honda Fit claimed four lives and left 15 others seriously injured on Saturday evening, in what authorities have described as yet another tragic reminder of reckless driving on Zimbabwean roads.
The accident occurred around 6:30PM on 15 June 2025, at the 25-kilometre peg along the Karoi-Binga Road.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed that the two vehicles — the Ford Ranger carrying seven passengers and a Honda Fit overloaded with 12 passengers — collided in a violent crash that sent shockwaves through the Karoi community.
*The deceased have been identified as:*
* Juliet Matonde (32),
* Eunice Matonde (13),
* Debra Matonde (8), and
* Letwin Matonde (3) — all from Dixie Farm, Magunje.
Their bodies have been taken to Karoi District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations, while the injured are receiving treatment at the same facility.
In a stark warning to drivers, ZRP national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi condemned the growing disregard for traffic laws and passenger safety.
“This level of carelessness on our roads is unacceptable. Road carnage must end.
“We continue to urge motorists to avoid overloading and exercise extreme caution to protect lives,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
According to police, preliminary investigations point to overloading and possible speeding as key factors behind the deadly crash.
The latest accident adds to Zimbabwe’s grim road safety record, with public outcry growing louder for stricter enforcement of traffic laws, particularly targeting unregulated vehicles and overburdened passenger cars such as Honda Fits, which are increasingly involved in fatal incidents.
The ZRP says investigations into the crash are ongoing.
